More Than Popcorn: Why We Kept This Business Going

Sometimes a business is more than a business—it’s part of a community.

For me, this one started on the sidelines of a soccer field.

As the soccer booster mom, I helped run the popcorn fundraiser which made it easy to fundraise for our team. Year after year, this fundraiser brought great popcorn from a small business into our communities’ homes as well as raising money for the team. Not just some money but a lot of money.

So when I heard the business was going up for sale, I knew what it would mean if it left.

And I couldn’t let that happen.

With my background in business education and two kids of my own, I’ve always believed that students need opportunities—but they also deserve to still be kids. Too many jobs expect them to choose between work and the activities that shape who they are.

That never sat right with me.

This business offered a better way.

So I made the decision to keep it here, in our community, and grow it into something even more meaningful—a place where students can earn money, gain real-world experience, and still have the flexibility to be involved in sports, school, and life.

Today, that mission is at the center of everything we do.

Our students aren’t just employees—they’re learning responsibility, teamwork, communication, and what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves.

And yes, we’re still making delicious popcorn.

But what matters most is what each bag represents.

When you support our business, you’re helping local students:

  • Stay involved in the activities they love

  • Build confidence and real-life skills

  • Earn money in a way that fits their lives

  • Be part of something rooted right here in the rural community of western Maine

That’s what makes this Popcorn with a Purpose.

This business could have gone anywhere.
Instead, it stayed right where it belongs.

And with your support, it’s creating opportunities for the next generation—one batch at a time.

Thank you for supporting our small business,

Jodi
